Luther and Central squared off for the first game of a three-game series that will resume on Tuesday, April 23 in Pella, Iowa. Today's game was scheduled for tomorrow but due to the forecast of rain all day across Iowa, the two teams agreed to play this afternoon in the valley.
Central used 14 hits, that included three home runs, to defeat Luther 8-3. The Dutch scored once in the first, four times in the third, twice in the sixth and once in the ninth.
Luther tallied seven hits and scored once in the fourth and twice in the sixth.
Noah Kindem hit a solo home run in the fourth and
Gavin Scurr hit a two-run home run in the sixth.
Lewis Peters started the sixth with a double to left field.
The Norse used five pitchers and combined the staff allowed seven earned runs, walked four and struck out seven.
The loss levels Luther's A-R-C record to 6-6, 17-11 overall. Central improved to 5-8 in league play, 11-17 overall.
Luther will host Buena Vista University this Friday and Saturday, April 19-20. Friday's game will start at 3 p.m. and Saturday's double header will begin at Noon.
