Luther hosted Buena Vista University this afternoon for the first of three games of this weekend series. The Norse score three times in the fifth, twice in the seventh and added three more in the eighth en route to an 8-2 victory.
Buena Vista entered the game alone in second place in the A-R-C standings with a mark of 11-2. With the win, Luther is now in fourth place with a league record of 7-6, 18-11 overall.
Lead-off batter
Gavin Scurr and
Mark Prince led the Norse attack. Scurr drove in four runs after going 3-for-4 at the plate. He hit a two-run home run over the left-center field fence in the seventh, and drove in two more runs in the eighth with a single. Prince was 3-for-5 after hitting a two-run home run to left field and drove in another run with a single in the eighth. He also had a single in the seventh.
Designated hitter
Garren Heinert also had a multiple hit afternoon with a 2-3 performance and scored twice.
Harrison Blum (6-1) pitched eight innings. Blum allowed two unearned runs on four hits, walked four, and tied his single game career high with 12 strikeouts.
Blake Jondle pitched the final frame and allowed two hits and struck out one.
Tomorrow's double header is scheduled to begin at Noon. Be sure to check this website for a time change if in fact the cold weather predicted for tonight brings frost. If so, the start time will be moved back and that start time will be determined in the morning.
