Luther and St. Olaf College squared off for a double header this afternoon in the valley and split the first two games of this four-game series. The Norse won game one 6-1 and the Oles won game two 13-6.
Game One: Luther 5, St. Olaf 1
Harry Blum (3-0) pitched a gem, allowing one run on two hits in this seven inning game. In six innings of work, he was also credited with four walks and six strikeouts. Following today's start, Blum has an era of 1.42 in 19 innings of work that includes a pitching staff best 18 strikeouts. At one point during this contest, Blum retired 11 batters in a row, before issuing a walk in the fifth frame. He allowed the only run of the game for the Oles in the sixth.
Blake Jondle took over in the seventh and retired three of the four batters he faced.
Joshua Matanich led the Norse attack going 3-for-3 and driving in two runs.

Game Two: St. Olaf 13, Luther 6
St. Olaf did all of its damage in the final six innings of this nine inning contest after trailing the Norse 3-0. Four of their 16 hits were home runs. Sam Lavin, who was 2-for-6, hit back-to-back two run home runs in the fourth and fifth frames off of two different pitchers. Joey Glampe hit a grand slam in the eighth and Evan Hammonds hit a solo shot in the ninth.
Matanich once again led the Norse attack. Matanich drove in three runs and
Gavin Scurr hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the first.
Noah Pinette was also credited with an rbi following a double in the eighth frame.

The split gives Luther an overall record of 5-3. St. Olaf is now 3-3.
