CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - The Luther women's basketball team lost to Coe 72-56 in a midweek match-up on Wednesday. The Norse were led by
Kailey Jones with 21 points. Overall Luther is 10-13 and 5-9 in the American Rivers Conference.
The Kohawks were on the board in the first 15 seconds but on the other end
Chelin Isaacson hit a three-pointer to go up by one. Coe and Luther continued to trade points and the lead both offenses were having a strong first quarter. With 3:59 left, the Kohawks held a 13-8 lead for a five point advantage. Then
Haylie Strum and the Norse strung together a nine point run. Both teams ended the first with four more points but Luther now had the lead by four at 21-17. Both teams shot over fifty percent from the field with the Norse at 61.5 while the Kohawks shot 53.8.
In the second quarter, after an early three from Jones it was all Kohawks. Coe regained the lead 25-24 with 4:47 left to play before heading to the locker room. The Kohawks held the Norse to just eight points while they dropped in 16 for a 33-29 lead at halftime.
Returning from the locker room the Kohawks had another strong defensive effort holding the Norse to just five points. Coe held a 50-34 lead going into the final frame.
With 4:02 left to play
Lizzie Kauls cut the Coe lead to 15-points off her layup down 60-47. However, there was no comeback in this one for Luther despite a 22-point quarter. Coe is now 18-4 overall and 9-4 in the A-R-C.
The Norse won the battle of the boards collecting 39 while Coe grabbed 34.
