Luther hosted Carleton College for its season opener this afternoon in the valley. The first pitch of game one at 12:01 p.m., marked the earliest the Norse have hosted a home game in February in school history. The combination of 13 hits and Harrison Blum tossing a gem propelled the Norse to a 14-1 victory over the Knights.
The Norse score one run in both the first and third frames, seven in the second and five in the fifth en route to the victory.
Mark Prince, who was officially 1-for-2, drove in four runs. He drove in runs in both the first and second innings with a sacrifice fly and hit a two-run double in the fifth.
Peyton Lindmark, Josh Matanich and
Noah Dutler were all credited with two rbi. Multiple hit games were recorded by Lindmark,
Gavin Scurr,
Noah Kindem and
Will Heithoff.
Harrison Blum was handed the opening day ball and produced a complete game victory. Blum allowed one run on one hit, struck out eight and walked one. At one point, he retired 12 batters in a row.
