DECORAH, Iowa - The Luther volleyball team fell to Loars College 3-2 in a five set match (25-18, 20-25, 26-24, 20-25, 10-15). The Norse had two players reach double-digit kills including 28 from
Sarina Stortz marking a new career high and a season high of 12 kills from
Annika Franzen.
Emma Kowalczyk recorded a double-double with 57 assists for a new career high and 12 digs. With the loss the Luther is 5-22 overall and 1-6 in the American Rivers Conference.
Luther and Loras each had won a set heading into the third. The Duhawks had set point at 24-21, but the Norse rallied with a 5-0 run that concluded on a service ace from
Lindsay Hanson to win the set 26-24.
Loars bounced back taking the fourth set 25-20 pushing the match to a fifth set.
This was the first five set match for Luther since Sept. 21 against Monmouth.
The deciding set featured two lead chances and twice the score was tied. Loras forced the teams to switch sides leading 8-7 and then proceeded to lead the rest of the way to win the match.
Kyah Olson-Sola and
Emily Hagen tallied 17 digs.
The Duhawks improved to 14-11 overall and 3-2 in the A-R-C.
Luther also recognized their senior class including Stortz, Olson-Sola, Kowalczyk,
Talia Grier, Hagen and student coach Finn Wallace.
This is the final home match to be played in the Regents Center Gym on the original floor from 1963.
