The men's swimming and diving team hosted Macalester College tonight for the season opening dual for both teams. The Scots edged the Norse posting a 151-143 victory. This was the sixth meeting in the pool between these two schools in a series that started in 1968. The last time they faced each other was Oct. 22, 2022.
Colin Halverson and
Samuel Schleicher led the Norse with two first place finishes each. Halverson won both the one-meter (6 dives) and three-meter (6 dives) competitions. He tallied (268.90) on the one-meter board and (256.45) on the three-meter board. In his first collegiate meet, Schleicher touched the wall first in the 200 butterfly (2:04.81) and the 500 freestyle (5:05.64).
Also posting first place finishes included
Owen McCredie in the 1000 freestyle (10:51.08),
Nico Shrestha in the 200 freestyle (1:48.32), and
Kevin Kretz in the 100 freestyle (48.75).
Runner-up finishes were recorded by
Gabe Armstrong in the 100 breaststroke (1:02.21), Kretz in both the 50 freestyle (22.18) and 100 butterfly (54.07),
Drew Chamberlain in the 100 backstroke (55.10) and 200 backstroke (2:05.29), Shrestha in the 100 freestyle (48.79),
Brock Ohlensehlen in the 500 freestyle (5:24.37), and
Amir Womack in one-meter diving (192.60).
The Norse also finished second in the 200 medley relay (1:38.75) and the 200 freestyle relay (1:29.09).

Luther will return to action on Saturday, Oct. 26 when they will travel to St. Olaf College, Northfield, Minn., for the Cows, Colleges and Contentment Invitational. Start time is 11:00 a.m.
