Norse Defeat Kohawks 3-2 - Sale Scores Game Winner

Luther remained atop the American Rivers Conference standings following a 3-2 victory over Coe College this afternoon in the valley. With the score tied 1-1 at halftime, Luther scored twice in the final 45 minutes of play to secure the victory.

Raul Ferrandez gave the Norse an early 1-0 lead driving his fifth goal of the season a 2:33, assisted by Hernan Manzanet (3). Coe leveled the score in the 33rd minute thanks to a goal by Juan Suarez.

In the final 45 minutes of play, Javier Pastor Valls score a team leading ninth goal of the year, assisted by Ferrandez at 49:15. Matthew Sale scored what proved to be the game winner in the 69th minute unassisted. His goal was the first of the year.

Coe made things interesting when Isaiah Jackel redirected a pass from Jack Resado into the Norse net at 78:30.

The Norse dominated this match producing 23 shots to the Kohawks eight. Goalkeeper Jack Bell faced six shots on goal and turned away four.

Box Score

The win gives Luther a league record of 5-1. The Norse sit atop the league standings with 15 points. Wartburg College (4-2) is next with 12 points and Loras College (3-1-1) is third with 10. The top-six teams will qualify for the end of the year A-R-C Tournament.

Luther will travel to Loras on Wednesday, Oct. 23, for a match that will begin at 7:30 p.m.
