Second Half Surge By Spartans Too Much For Norse

DUBUQUE, Iowa - The Luther women's basketball team fell on the road at the University of Dubuque 76-64 on Wednesday. Among the scorers the Norse were led by a double-double from Haylie Strum with 18 points and 11 rebounds. Luther is now 10-11 overall and 5-7 in the American Rivers Conference.

As the first quarter reached the midway point, Dubuque was holding a two-point lead at 10-8. A three from Strum gave the Norse back the lead by one with 4:40 on the clock. Then the Spartans went on a 9-3 run . A jumper from Kenlin Schmitt ended the run cutting the Spartan advantage to three with 2:01 left. As the quarter expired Dubuque had a 28-22 lead even with Megan Miller hitting a three as time expired.

Through the first 1:30 of the second quarter the two teams traded points back-and-fourth. At 7:36 the Spartans were ahead 34-27. At 5:47, a layup from Isabel Herda pulled the Norse within two down 33-35. However, with 3:04 left before the half, Dubuque held a seven-point advantage of 42-35. Luther closed the half on a 6-2 run in part to two three-pointers from Kate Hosking. The Spartans led at the break 44-41.
