Norse Narrowly Defeated By Buena Vista

DECORAH, Iowa - The Luther men's basketball team just missed the game winning shot on Saturday as they fell to Buena Vista 60-58. The top scorers for the Norse were Randall Days and Aidan Bailey who both recorded 11 points. With the loss Luther is 6-14 overall and 1-10 in the American Rivers Conference. 

To start the first half the Beavers scored first with a three. Then Bailey responded for the Norse with a three of his own. He would go on to score the next six points all from beyond the arc down by one at 10-9 with 17:13 on the clock. As the half reached the midway point, a shot from Days put the Norse up 21-20 with 10:22 before the break. Will Bockenstedt hit threes on back-to-back possessions holding a three-point advantage over the Beavers. With 5:07 the game was tied at 28 but Buena Vista would close the half on a 3-1 run for a 31-30 lead heading into the locker room. 

In the second half, at 11:25, a three form Eros Carpio gave the Norse an eight-point advantage at 49-41. Then the Beavers chipped away at the lead with a 8-3 run of their own. Andrew Lazinbat hit a jumper that had the Norse back up by five with 5:36 remaining. However, Buena Vista reclaimed the lead with a three-pointer for a 57-56 advantage with 2:11 to go. Then Days collected the offensive rebound swinging the lead back in favor of Luther. Then with 1:31 the Beavers hit a three. Although Luther would have the final shot of the game the Norse just missed falling in a heart breaker at home. 

The game had 14 lead changes and eight ties. Luther was stronger beyond the arc shooting 47.6 percent over the course of the game. 

The Beavers improve their record to 11-8 overall and 4-6 in the A-R-C.

  • Daniel Webster had ten points, six rebounds and two steals. 
  • Bialey led the team with seven rebounds and was 3-6 from beyond the arc. 
  • Will Bockenstedt chipped in nine points.
