DECORAH, Iowa - The Luther women's basketball team posted its best shooting numbers from the field and the arc at 54.3 and 50 percent. However, it wouldn't be enough on Wednesday as Wartburg defeated the Norse 78-64.
Megan Miller recorded a season high 17 points in the contest along with four assists. With the loss Luther is now 9-10 overall and 4-6 in the American Rivers Conference.
The Knights were on the board first with a three but
Kate Hosking responded on the other end to start the first quarter. With 5:39 Wartburg tied it at 8. Then the Norse proceeded on a 10-4 run as the quarter was coming to a close for a 18-12 advantage. However, the Knights pulled within two at the end of the first. Hosking scored 10 of the 18 points for the Norse.
The second quarter saw the score tied seven times and eight lead changes. From the floor Luther was 10-12 and 4-5 from the arc for the best numbers in a single quarter this season. The Norse defense held the Knights to zero three point attempts. The only category the Knights did better in was at the line going 7-8. Luther regained a 37-36 lead with a three from Miller with 2:17 to go before halftime. The Knights knotted the game at 41 with 33 seconds left but
Jordan Rubie knocked down a three for a 44-41 Norse lead into the locker room.
In the third the Knights limited the Norse to just nine points while they dropped in 21. Wartburg now had a nine point lead over Luther heading into the final quarter.
Luther would slowly chip away at the Knights lead as
Haylie Strum pulled the Norse within four at 66-62 with 3:25 to play. But that would be the closest the Norse would get as the Knights won the game 78-64.
Wartburg remains undefeated in conference play at 10-0 and a 17-2 overall record.
