Four In Double Figures As Luther Beats Nebraska Wesleyan

LINCOLN, Neb. - Four players posted double figures to help the Luther women's basketball team to a 69-50 win over Nebraska Wesleyan on Saturday. Haylie Strum, Megan Miller and Kate Hosking had 11 points and Kailey Jones had ten. The Norse never relinquished a lead in the contest. Luther improved it's record to 9-9 overall and 4-5 in the American Rivers Conference.

Jones put in the first points for the Norse in the opening minutes of the first quarter. Nebraska Wesleyan tied the game on the next possession but from that point on it was all Norse. The Prairie Wolves narrowed the Norse lead to two at 13-11 with 2:13 in the first. Luther proceed on a 10-2 run to close out the half for a 23-13 advantage. 

In the second quarter the Norse limited the Prairie Wolves to 11 points while adding 17 to their total. With 13 seconds before halftime, Jordan Rubie passed it to Kenlin Schmitt who laid in a layup to take a 40-24 lead. 

Out of the break Luther extended their lead to 44-20 after Isabel Herda went inside scoring from the paint at 6:51. Over the next few minutes Nebraska Wesleyan would slim the lead to ten points at 46-36. Then to close out the quarter the Norse went on a 6-0 run. 

In the fourth, Luther created its largest lead of the game of 25 with a jump shot from Chelin Isaacson with 4:39 in the contest putting the game out of reach for the Praririe Wolves. The Norse shot 61.5 percent from the floor in the final quarter. 

Luther won the battle of the boards 50-32 and had six team blocks.

  • Strum nearly posted a double-double with nine rebounds and 11 points. 
  • Jones also had eight rebounds. 
  • Miller recorded a season high point total with 11. 
  • Abby Anderson scored her first points in a Norse uniform with four total. 
  • Herda had a team high three steals.
