Norse defeat Saints 4-1 in non-conference finale

DECORAH, Iowa – The Luther women's soccer team defeated St. Scholastica 4-1 in the final non-conference game of the regular season. Lauren Linkletter scored two goals in the contest for her first multi-goal game with one coming in each half. Luther is now 3-3-4 overall and 0-0-1 in A-R-C.

Just eight minutes into the contest the Norse would find their first goal of the game. Lauren Linkletter was at the center of the box waiting for the ball to come to her. Three Saints defenders swarmed her trying to clear it. But Linkletter kept focused then used her left foot to slide it into the goal for the 1-0 Norse lead.

Later Cassiah James set in a low bouncing kick from the corner flag towards the box. The ball bounced to the feet of Maggie Haller who put just enough on it to slip past the defenders. Luther felt comfortable with their 2-0 lead in the 31st minute. Luther felt good about the first half with their two goal lead.

In the second half, the Norse wanted more goals. Luther would set up for the corner kick with six players waiting for the cross in. After a few ricochets the Saints thought they had cleared it. Instead it went right to Linkletter who took the shot. The ball squeezed through the goalkeepers hands and into the net for her second goal of the game in the 51st minute.

The Saints would score in the 56th minute but the Norse were still leading 3-1. Then in the 77th minute James crossed it in on the corner kick. The ball floated right to Gaby Caballero who put it away for good making it a 4-1 Norse advantage. The goal was her first of her career and James was credited with her second assist.

Luther out shot St. Scholastica 18-1 in the victory. A dominant performance from the Norse as they are now unbeaten in their last three games.
