WALLA WALLA, Wash. – In their final game out in Washington state the Luther women's soccer team came from behind to tie Whitman 1-1 in the 60
th minute with a goal from
Maggie Haller.
In the first half the Norse were putting the press on early as the Norse had three corner kicks and three shots in the first 11 minutes of the game. Those early moment made it seem that Luther would be on the front foot the entire game. But how soccer goes one deflection or clear takeaway can make a difference.
The first goal of the game came off a set piece from Whitman in the 29
th minute. Leaving the Norse to play from behind for the first time this season.
Elisabeth Queoff (Madison, Wis. / Verona) made two saves in her first forty-five minutes of action. The Blues held on the 1-0 led heading into halftime.
Down but not out coming out of the break the Norse had work to do but there was still plenty of game left. In the 59
th minute Luther set up for the corner kick and sending it in would be none other than
Kaitlyn Bebensee (West Des Moines, Iowa / Valley). The ball went to the feet of
Maggie Haller (Minneapolis, Minn. / DeLaSalle) who slotted it into the back of the net tying the game at 1-1 in the 60
th minute.
Haller would take one final shot as the clock ticked away the final fifteen seconds but this game ended in the 1-1 draw. It was the first ever meeting between the two teams.
Mary Kitundu (Des Moines, Iowa / Roosevelt) also played forty-five in goal during the second half recording two saves.
