DUBUQUE, Iowa - With the American Rivers Conference (A-R-C) baseball season winding down the Norse and Duhawks are in a critical three-game weekend series. The first game goes to Loras who defeated Luther 12-2 in seven innings.
Charlie Rubendall helped the first run come across the plate for the Norse and
Joshua Matanich had a solo home run. With the loss Luther now stands at 20-14 overall and 13-6 in A-R-C.
QUIET BATS
The Norse quickly got on in the top of the second inning with
Aiden Michna (Moline, Ill. / Moline) back in the lineup lining a double down the right field side. He was quickly followed by
Charlie Rubendall (Minneapolis, Minn. / DeLaSalle) who hit a single but also advanced to second, giving Michna the chance to score the first run for the Norse.
Then Loras responded with three runs in the bottom half of the inning to take over the lead. The Duhawks kept rolling with another two runs in the second and six run fourth building the score to 11-1.
Luther ended the 11-0 Loras run with a solo home run from
Joshua Matanich (Lake City, Minn. / Lincoln) in the top of the fifth. But the Duhawks were still holding on to the 11-2 scoreline going into the seventh. And they would get the final run to end the game via the run-rule at 12-2. Luther drops to 20-14 overall and 13-6 in A-R-C.
Nick Dufoe (Adel, Iowa / Adel-DeSoto-Minburn) is now 3-3 on the season.
