Norse Conquer Beavers 75-37

STORM LAKE, Iowa - The Luther women's basketball team cruised by Buena Vista 75-37 on Saturday. The Norse won their fifth straight and recorded their largest margin of victory in the 2023-24 season with 38-points. Lizzie Kauls had a double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds. Haylie Strum also had 15 points. With the win Luther is now 5-4 overall and 3-1 in the American Rivers Conference (A-R-C). 

Luther rolled over Buena Vista in the first quarter with an impressive 25-0 run. The Beavers would only score four points in the quarter in the remaining 1:55 with the Norse on top 25-4. The Norse edged the Beavers 14-12 in the second quarter. Both Kauls and Strum had 10 points as the teams headed to the locker room with the Norse leading 39-16.

In the third quarter the Beavers went on a 5-2 run but the Norse quickly began to put the pressure on. At 7:08, a layup by Chelin Isaacson put Luther on the start of a 19-6 run to close out the quarter. In the final quarter of play the Norse shot 43.8 percent from the field to shut down the Beavers for a 75-37 win. 

The keys to success for Luther was winning the rebounds setting a season high 53. The Norse scored 42 points in the paint, 30 points off turnovers and a team high of 20 assists in the contest.

  • Kauls recorded a season high and first double-double of the season.
  • Strum had 15 points tallying four straight games in double-digits. 
  • Kenlin Schmitt and Kate Hosking each had eight points.
  • Jones had seven points and seven rebounds.
  • Isaacson had the second most rebounds on the team with ten along with five points.
