Women's Basketball Defeats Cornell 64-55

DECORAH, Iowa - The win streak has now extended to six for the Luther women's basketball team after they defeated Cornell College 64-55 on Saturday. Three Norse players recorded double-digits including Kailey Jones, Kate Hosking and Jordan Rubie. With the win Luther is now 6-4 overall and 3-1 in the American Rivers Conference.

It was a tight opening first quarter between the two teams. A three from Rubie put the Norse up 17-15 after ten minutes of action. Then three minutes into the second quarter Luther forced a turnover and Chelin Isaacson scored on the other end with a layup for an eight point lead at 23-15. The Rams never let the Norse improve to a double-digit lead. With fifty seconds left in the half Hosking put the Norse up by six 32-26 at the break.

During the third quarter both teams scored 16 points but Luther was still well in control leading 48-42. Then in the fourth quarter, Amelia Solum got the Norse fired up with a layup inside the paint for an eight point advantage 50-42. However, Cornell closed the gap and found themselves down by two with 5:59 left in the contest. Luther answered on the next play with Haylie Strum driving inside for the layup and nailed the free throw for a three-point play. Later the Norse pushed their lead back to nine points as Jones grabbed the offense rebound and scored for a 61-52 advantage. Just as the first half concluded Hosking closed the game with a three pointer for the 64-55 win and their sixth straight.
