STORM LAKE, Iowa - The Luther men's basketball team played a tight contest against Buena Vista on Saturday falling 74-71.
Daniel Webster had a season high of 20 points leading all scorers. With the loss Luther is now 3-6 overall and 0-4 in the American Rivers Conference (A-R-C).
In the first half, the largest lead for the Norse was eights points after a layup from
Aidan Bailey at 12:08 for a 21-13 lead. Then the Beavers began to close the gap as the half winded down with 2:20 they pulled within four at 33-29. Buena Vista closed the half on a 10-1 run. Luther shot nearly 50 percent from the field and 40 percent from beyond the arc but it was Buena Vista who would hold a 36-35 lead at halftime.
Out of the break neither team could build their lead to larger than five. Midway through the second half at 11:09 the Beavers tied the game at 54. The Buena Vista lead would be short lived as the Luther regained the lead with buckets from Bailey and
Mikkel Schutte at 58-57. Then with 5:04
Matthew Franzen hit a three-pointer for a four point advantage at 68-64 but the Beavers were within one a minute later. Later a layup and an-one shot by Webster put the Norse up by four with 2:12 remaining in the contest and ahead 71-67. However, the Beavers went on a 7-0 run to win the game 74-71.
