Norse Dismantle Warriors

DECORAH, Iowa - The Luther men's basketball team closed out the first half of the season on a high note. The Norse defeated Waldorf in dominant fashion 85-51 on Saturday. Mikkel Schutte led the team with 16 points as the Norse improve their record to 5-8 overall and 0-4 in the American Rivers Conference. 

Daniel Webster stole it away from the Warriors on their opening possession with Aidan Bailey scoring the jump shot for the games first points. The two teams kept pace with each other until the half reached the midway point. Ben Gill tied the game at 14 as Luther went on a 13-point run for a 25-14 advantage. Waldorf chipped away at the lead pulling within three with 3:10 left in the half down 27-24. Luther finished the half on a 4-2 run for a 31-26 lead at halftime. 

In the second half the Norse pulled away Warriors for good. Luther shot 55.9% from the field, 46.2% from beyond the arc and 90.9% in the second half. The Norse scored 54 points in the half their largest since the opening game season. 

For the game Luther shot 50% from the field, 39.1% from the arc and 80% from the charity stripe in rout of Waldorf. The Norse also blocked seven shots with Jake Collis recording three.

  • Schutte led the team with 16 points and six rebounds. 
  • Webster had 15 points and two steals. 
  • Bailey recorded 14 points, eight rebounds and three assists. 
  • Gill nearly had a double-double with 11 points and nine rebounds.
