CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - The American Rivers Conference released the 2023 men's soccer All-Conference selections on Wednesday. The Norse had seven players land on the list with five being named to the All-Conference team along with two honorable mention selections. Those earning the nod for the first time are
Jack Bell,
Felipe Alvarez Casaro and
Ramzi Ouro-Akondo while
Hernan Manzanet and Raul Ferrandez earn their second All-Conference selection.
The Norse finished the regular season with a overall record of 6-8-6 and a 4-3-1 conference record. During conference play the Norse only allowed six goals which was second best in the conference.
Jack Bell (Madison, Wis. / Madison Memorial) - Goalkeeper
Bell earns the honor for the first time in his career. Over the 2023 season he had a 1.49 goals against average (GAA) making 47 saves in 18 appearances for the Norse. During the conference season he played in seven games. The junior recorded a 0.92 GAA allowing six goals in conference play and had 12 saves.
Felipe Alvarez Casaro (Linoa, Portugal / Instituto Espanol Lisboa) - Midfielder
The forward led the Norse offense during the conference season with three goals for a total of six points. He had one game winning goal which came against Nebraska Wesleyan on September 23. He played in 19 of the 20 games during the season and all eight of the conference season.
Raul Ferrandez (Crevillent, Spain) - Defender
Ferrandez played in 17 games during the regular and all eight contests of the conference season. He tied for first among the team with five goals for ten points. He was 2-3 on the season for penalty kicks. He earns the honors for the second year ina row.
Hernan Manzanet (Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic / High Mowing School) - Defender
Manzanet returns as an All-Conference selection after being named and honorable mention in 2022. He played in 18 games and recorded one assist. His assist was in the first round of the A-R-C Tournament in the 3-3 tie vs Simpson. He also converted a penalty kick during the shootout that kept the Norse season alive. Druing the conference seaason he played 630 minutes.
Ramzi Ouro-Akondo (Minneapolis, Minn. / Southwest) - Defender
Ouro-Akondo is another one of the Norse players earning the honors for the first time in his career. He led the offense with five goals and one assist for 11 points. The defender had two game winners. He had his first multi-goal game of his career against the Simpson in the first round of the A-R-C Tournament with two goals.
Jose Gimenez (Santiago, Chile / High Mowing School) - Defender
Gimenez appeared in 17 games over the course of the season as he earns an honorable mention selection. He tallied one assist while on the back line for the Norse. His assist came in the Nebraska Wesleyan game on September 23. He was part of the defense that only allowed six goals during conference play.
William Valentine (Los Angeles, Calif. / Loyola) - Midfielder
Valentine earns a second honorable mention selection after earning it in 2022. He played in 18 games and seven of the eight conference games.
