DECORAH, Iowa – The Luther men's basketball team fell to Crown on a last second buzzer beater 58-56 on Saturday. The Norse were led by
Ben Gill with 16 points. With the loss the Norse are now 3-2 overall and 0-1 in the American Rivers Conference.
In the first half, Gill got the Norse on the board with a layup inside the paint for the first points of the game. Crown hit their largest lead of the half of five points at 4:15 left thanks to a three-pointer. Luther bounced back cutting down the lead with buckets from
Tim Mewborn,
Aidan Bailey and
Mikkel Schutte. However, the Polars were ahead at the break 29-27.
Randall Days knocked down a three-pointer that tied the game at 34 at 14:57. Then the Norse went on a 10-4 run for their largest lead of seven points. Crown reclaimed the lead with 2:05 to go. Then with 17 seconds left the Polars made it a one possession game at 55-53.
Days collected the offensive rebound and laid it in tying the game at 55. He would go to the line for an and-one opportunity turning it into a three-point play for the 56-55 lead. Crown would get one final chance on offense with four seconds left hitting a three-point shot as time expired to defeat Luther.
