LINCOLN, NEB. – The Luther volleyball team was swept by Nebraska Wesleyan 3-0 (25-23, 25-24, 25-15). The Norse offense was led by
Emily Hagen and
Zoe Verhey with eight kills and
Kyah Olson-Sola had 14 digs. Luther is 6-13 overall and 1-3 in American Rivers Conference (A-R-C).
Both teams opened the match hitting strong at .333 in a close set. Throughout the set there were 14 times the score was tied and five lead changes. Luther grabbed the first three points but Nebraska Wesleyan kept it close. The momentum kept swinging as neither team could get more than a few points at a time. Midway through the Norse had back-to-back kills from
Zoe Verhey to tie the match at 16 all. Then Nebraska Wesleyan would get one back and Luther would answer again. This time with a Verhey kill and a service ace from
Emily Hagen. Once again the Prairie Wolves won a point and the Norse answered with kills from Verhey and
Haley Gossman. Luther had the lead at 20-18 before Nebraska Wesleyan rallied creeping out to 23. Then
Sarina Stortz tied the match for the 14
th and final time at 23 with a kill but the Prairie Wolves would capture the final two points closing the set 25-23.
Nebraska Wesleyan gained momentum in the second and third set and would take the match with wins of 25-14, 25-15. Statistically, the Norse did have more blocks than the Prairie Wolves with four compared to their one.
