EAU CLAIRE, Wis. – The Luther men's soccer team faced the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire in rematch of the 2022 NCAA Tournament first round. It was a high scoring affair with the Blugolds winning the game 5-2. The Norse goals would come in the second half from Raul Ferrandez and
Ramzi Ouro-Akondo in the 55
th and 59
th minute. Luther is 6-6-5 overall and 4-2-1 in the American Rivers Conference (A-R-C).
The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire scored three unanswered goals in the first half coming in the 11
th, 14
th and 34
th minute. The Blugolds would take the 3-0 lead into the break.
In the second half, Luther would have the opportunity to take a penalty kick. Raul Ferrandez would be the one to take the kick. He buried it sending the goalie the wrong direction. As the Norse were beginning to mount a comeback in the 55
th minute.
Four minutes later,
Lenny Lechner set up for the corner kick. His cross headed towards the goal where
Ramzi Ouro-Akondo was waiting on it. Ouro-Akondo shot went into the lower right corner for a Norse goal in the 59th minute. Now Luther was only down by one with pleanty of time left in the game.
However, the Blugolds found the back of the net two more times in the 77th and 79th to win the game 5-2. Luther is now 6-6-5 overall while UW-Eau Claire improves to 11-3-2.
