DECORAH, IOWA – On a beautiful October night, the Luther men's soccer team defeated Augsburg 1-0.
Nino Pfeifer scored the game winner in the 81
st minute as the Norse handed the Auggies their second loss of the season. Luther is now 4-3-3 overall and 2-0 in American Rivers Conference.
Just five minutes into the game the Norse defense already had work to do. The Luther defender came sliding in blocking the first shot before Raul Ferrandez cleared it to prevent an early threat by the Auggies.
Then later in the 24
th minute, Augsburg had a free kick outside the box. However, the shot went right into the hands of
Jack Bell. Under thirty seconds to go in the half Augsburg threatened again but Bell covered the ball keeping the score level at 0-0.
In the second half, both teams were still searching for a goal. In the 80
th minute,
Ricardo Crisanto set up on the corner kick sending the ball into a sea of players. Then the ball came off
Nino Pfeifer and landed into the back of the net. The Norse now had the 1-0 lead with just nine minutes to go. Luther held on earning a shutout victory over Augsburg.
