Women’s Soccer Back in the Win Column

DECORAH, IOWA. – Luther snapped a two-game losing streak defeating Carthage College 2-0 with goals from Sammie Sabin (Mendota Heights, Minn./Visitation) and Emma Lin (Des Moines, Iowa/Roosevelt).

A NORSE SHOOTOUT

Luther was looking for a way to get back on track and as the sun was setting on a beautiful evening, they did just that. Just a mere three minutes into the game Maggie Haller (Minneapolis, Minn./DeLaSalle) would drill it towards the goal but a deflection off of the Firebirds goalkeeper gave Sammie Sabin (Mendota Heights, Minn./Visitation) the chance to put it away. But that would be the only goal of the half even though the Norse offense fired off twelve shots and limited Carthage to zero shots.

By the time the second half rolled around the Norse continued to get the ball in the defensive half of Carthage. But the Firebirds goalkeeper Ainsley Stallworth defended the net well to keep the score line low. Luther was bound to get another goal and that occurred in the 86th minute as Maggie Haller (Minneapolis, Minn./DeLaSalle) cut into the box and feed the ball across towards Emma Lin (Des Moines, Iowa/Roosevelt) who slid it into the lower right corner. The Norse win 2 to 0 over the Firebirds and had a total of twenty-four shots in the game.
