The Luther College women's tennis team will be making a third consecutive trip to the NCAA III National Tournament. The Norse faced Coe College in today's American Rivers Conference AQ Tournament championship match and defeated the Kohawks 5-0. Luther was the No. 1 seed of the tournament after capturing the regular season title with a mark of 8-0.
The semifinals and championship matches were played at the Winona Tennis Center (MN) after rain in the Decorah area both Friday and Saturday forced the tournament to be moved indoors in Winona.
The Norse jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead sweeping doubles.
Shelby Cook and
Julia Moreno defeated Isabella Hoppenjans and Emma Lassen at No. 1 (8-5).
Sofia Sackett and
Ana Olimpio defeated Madison Schultz and Jania Carter-Johnson (8-3) at No. 2.
Lexi Hastings and
Renata Martinez posted an (8-6) victory over Eliza Sundermann and Claudia Bilkey at No. 3.
Needing just two wins in singles to secure the AQ title, those were provided by Moreno at No. 3 (6-1, 6-0) and Cook at No. 4 (6-0, 6-3) respectively.

The Norse have now won nine league AQ Tournament titles (2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2010, 2011, 2019, 2021, 2022). The 2020 tournament was canceled due to COVID-19.
The win gives Luther an overall record of 18-10.
Luther will find out where they will begin play in the regional round of the national tournament on Monday, May 9 during the NCAA III National Tournament selection show.
