Luther wrapped up its three-game series at the University of Dubuque posting wins of 10-1 and 8-7 this afternoon, securing the weekend series sweep. The two wins gives the Norse an A-R-C record of 5-3, 12-8 overall.
In game one, Luther scored first thanks to a two-run home run by
Luke Plunkett in the third frame. The Norse added a run in the sixth and two in the seventh and sealed the deal with a five-run ninth.
Plunkett finished the game 3-for-5 with 3 rbi.
Charlie Rubendall officially was 0-for-5, but drove in two runs in the 9th.
Cullen Stamp,
Gavin Scurr,
Gabe Atkins,
Noah Sebben and
Joe Jersak all drove in a run.
Tyler Boesel (2-1) went the distance. He faced 35 batters, allowed one run on four hits, walked one and struck out 11.
In the nightcap, the Norse scored four runs in the ninth to secure the come-from-behind victory. All four runs were earned. Jersak drove in a run and Plunkett drove in two on a double to center field. Josh Matanich drove in the final run with a single to right. Matanich finished the game 2-for-5 with 3 rbi.
Carter Bratland (2-1) picked up the win in relief. Bratland threw the final three innings, allowed one run on one hit and struck out seven.
The Norse till travel to Wartburg College on Tuesday, April 5, for a single nine-inning game that is scheduled to begin at 6:00 p.m.
