Luther traveled to Cedar Rapids, Iowa and Daniels Park for a double header against Coe College this afternoon. The Norse won game one 5-1 and were defeated in game two 3-2.
In game one, the Norse scored two runs in the first and fifth innings and one in the eighth. The Kohawks lone run came in the bottom of the seventh.
Charlie Rubendall was 2-4 with three rbi. He drove in a run in the first and hit a two-run home run in the fifth.
Joshua Matanich and
Peyton Lindmark were both credited with an rbi.
Harrison Blum (3-1) was credited with the win. Blum allowed one run on one hit, walked four and struckout two in 6 1/3 innings of work.
Carter Bratland threw the final 2 2/3 and struckout five of the 10 batters he faced.
In the nightcap, Coe scored the game winner in the bottom of the fourth. The Kohawks manufactured the winning run following a lead-off single that was followed by a wild pitch, a sac bunt and an infield ground ball rbi. Both teams finished with seven hits.
Matanich was officially 1-for-1 with two walks and scored twice. He hit a solo home run in the top of the fourth that tied the game at 2-2.
Calvin Brinda (1-2) was credited with the loss. Brinda threw four complete, allowed three runs on six hits and struckout one.
Following today's action, Luther sits alone in fourth place in the league standings with a record of 8-6, 16-12 overall. Coe remains in third place with a mark of 10-7, 15-13.
This weekend, Luther hosts league leaders Buena Vista University (10-3, 18-9). The three-game series will begin on Friday, April 22 with a single nine inning game that starts at 3:00 p.m. Sunday's double header is slated to begin at Noon.
