Norse Wrap Up Weekend Series at Nebraska Wesleyan - Split Today's Double Header

Luther and Nebraska Wesleyan University wrapped up their three-game series splitting today's double header in Lincoln. The Prairie Wolves won game one 9-4 and the Norse won the nightcap 6-1.

Luther scored all of its runs in game one in the second, third and fourth innings. Joe Jesak drove in two runs in the fourth, while Gabe Atkins drove in a run in the second and Joshua Matanich drove in a run in the third. Atkins, Matanich, Gavin Scurr and Peyton Lindmark all had two hits.

The Norse held a 4-3 lead heading into the seventh. The Prairie Wolves scored five runs on three hits in the bottom half of the frame, that proved to be the difference in the come-from-behind win.

In the nightcap, Luther scored five runs on three hits in the third. They scored again in the sixth following a wild pitch.

Cullen Stamp, Aiden Michna, Matanich, Atkins and Will Heithoff all drove in a run in the third.

Ryan Manternach (4-1) threw six complete innings and did not allow a run on three hits. He walked one and struck out five. Carter Bratland followed Manternach and threw two scoreless frames that included four strikeouts. Collin Chalmers took over in the ninth and allowed one run on one hit.

The split gives Luther an A-R-C record of 7-5, 15-11 overall. The Norse are alone in fourth place in the league standings. Nebraska Wesleyan finished the weekend 6-7 in league play and is in seventh place.

Luther travels to Coe College (9-6) on Tuesday, April 19th. Coe is tied for second in the league standings with Wartburg. Buena Vista sits atop the standings with a record of 10-3). Tuesday's twin bill will begin at 1:00 p.m. at Daniels Park, Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
