Luther kicked-off its spring trip to Orlando, Fla., and the USTA National Campus with a hard fought 5-4 victory over Salisbury University (MD).
The Norse held a 2-1 lead following doubles play thanks to victories at No. 1 and No. 2.
Max Loen and
Nyathi Motlojoa defeated Gianluca Beaujon and Brad Pappalardo (8-7 (7-3)).
Nando Melo and
Luke Westholder posted an (8-3) victory over Luke McMullen and Russell Willenborg.
Three of the six singles matches were decided in a third set tie breaker. Motlojoa defeated Pappalardo (4-6, 6-0, 12-10) at No. 1. Loen won in straight sets over Willenborg (6-3, 6-4).
Dylan Wiemers won at No. 6 (7-6 (7-4), 6-3) over Gavin Reagle.
Westholder lost at No. 4 (3-6, 7-5, 13-15) and
Eli Young lost at No. 5 (6-1, 5-7, 7-10).
The victory gives Luther an overall record of 6-5. Salisbury University fell to 3-4.
