DUBUQUE, IOWA – Luther blanked Loras 6-0 to win their consecutive A-R-C conference game. Marco Vila (Madrid, Spain/I.E.S San Fernando) scored a hat trick in the largest margin of victory against Loras since a 7 to 1 victory on November 7
th, 1992.
MORE GOALS
In a late-night midweek conference game, the Norse continued to do what they do best…score often and early. If there's one thing opponents haven't learned this season is don't give a foul in the box to give the Norse a penalty kick. Luther so far has been perfect on the year on penalty kicks and tonight was no different for
Marcos Vila (Madrid, Spain/I.E.S San Fernando) who converted from the spot for a one goal lead in the 10
th minute. But just seven minutes later Vila would find an open
Will Overberg (Ankeny, Iowa/Ankeny Centennial) who put into the lower left corner. Luther kept the pressure on as the half continued on and they quickly stole the ball away from Loras to go on the counter in the 28
th minute. The Loras goalkeeper came way off his line for Overberg to put it away for a three goal Norse lead. Then with the half near the end after a great sequence of passing from
Hernan Manzanet (Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic/High Mowing School) and
Jose Gimenez (Santiago, Chile/High Mowing School (NH) to
Luiz Oliveira (Salvador, Brazil/Montverde Academy (FL) who kicked it high into the box for the fourth Norse game in the first half.
In the second half the Norse would add two more to their total. In the 52
nd minute
Marcos Vila (Madrid, Spain/I.E.S San Fernando) would fire it low and through the center to get his second goal of the game. But eleven minutes later he would score his third goal of the game for a hat trick. He now is tied for fifth in career goals with Matt Reinsmoen (1994-97) with 44 goals. Norse get the 6 to 0 win to improve to a 2-0-1 in A-R-C conference play and 8-1-2 overall.
