Norse and Dutch Can’t Break Deadlock

PELLA, IOWA – The final road game of the regular season saw the Norse and Dutch tie 1-1.

A TIE IS A TIE
The first two minutes saw the Norse put the pressure on the back line of the Dutch. Luther got their first corner kick of the game Kaitlyn Bebensee (West Des Moines, Iowa/Valley) sent it towards the box and off a deflection of a Central defender the ball was in the back of the net. But the Norse lead would be short lived ten minutes later. The Dutch went on a counter and cruised down the field. Grace Coates fooled the defense with one touch to sneak past the back line and fired the shot to the opposite side of the goal. The response from Central leveled the game at 1 until halftime.

In the second half the Luther offense kept taking chances but couldn't find a goal to pull ahead of the Dutch. And when the final whistle blew the game ended in a 1-1 tie. The Norse out shot the Dutch 13-6. With the result the two teams are still tied in the conference standings with 8 points apiece.

The soccer season is quickly coming to a close which means postseason is right around the corner. But the results from around the league today didn't do the Norse any favors. There are three spots left to clinch for the 2022 A-R-C Conference Tournament beginning with the first-round next weekend. Dubuque, Central, Luther and Nebraska Wesleyan are the teams vying for those spots. It will come down to the final games of the regular season on Tuesday October 25th.
