DECORAH, IOWA – A wild game that saw eight goals between the two teams ends in the Norse falling to Simpson 5-3.
GOALS AND MORE GOALS
In the opening minutes of this game the Storm quickly surged down the field but
Rainey Baker (Plymouth, Minn./Robbinsdale-Armstrong) got in front to stop one early goal from going in. The Norse put the pressure on but it was Simpson who would net one first from their leading goal scorer. Cassie Nash snuck through the backline of Luther in the 14
th minute. Then just over a minute later
Kaitlyn Bebensee (West Des Moines, Iowa/Valley) set up for the corner sending it to the far post as
Emma Lin (Des Moines, Iowa/Roosevelt) who headed it in to tie it up at 1. The game would stay that way until
Maggie Haller (Minneapolis, Minn./DeLaSalle) drove down the right side and into the box to find an unmarked
Sammie Sabin (Mendota Height, Minn./Visitation) for a Norse goal in the 24
th minute. But that lead be gone in a flash as a hand ball was called in the Luther box which gave Simpson a penalty kick. Cassie Nash faked out the goalkeeper for the goal which tied it up again at 2. Luther kept fighting an eventually got taken down in the Simpson box setting up a penalty kick.
Maggie Haller (Minneapolis, Minn./DeLaSalle) took a few steps before sending it to the lower left corner for the Norse to take a 3-2 lead in the 33
rd minute. The Strom weren't going to let that slide as Cassie Nash found the net for the third time in the first half in the 41
st minute. A combined six goals coming in that first half for a 3-3 tie into the break.
