LA CROSSE, WIS. – In the final nonconference game of the season for the Norse the fall to the Eagles 5-0.
NOT OUR NIGHT
Rarely does a goal get erased at the division three level of soccer. This is what happened to the Norse who came out attacking the Eagles right away in the first minute of play. Luther sent it in off the corner kick towards goal where a blob of players stood. Despite the many bodies crowding the six-yard box, the Norse somehow knocked it in. But after celebrating the goal it was called off. The game was back at a 0-0 draw. Then in the 9
th minute the Eagles got on the board with a similar goal much like the one the Norse had. This time however it counted for the Eagles with Ainsley Allan getting the credit. The Norse were now trailing by a goal. The Norse kept taking the chances they got a few times getting close. But the pressure from UW-La Crosse began to build as they sent in a cross towards goal to the feet of Lindsey Szymanski. Szymanski put just enough on the ball that it slipped through for the second Eagle goal in the 38
th minute. The Eagles now had a two-goal lead going into the break.
Two minutes into the second half the Norse would set up a chance from
Rose Sieve (Apple Valley, Minn./Rosemount) into
Maggie Haller (Minneapolis, Minn./DeLaSalle) but the save by Eagles keeper kept it out. Then in the 48
th minute the Norse couldn't clear it out of the box.
Ken Vavrichek (Bloomington, Minn./The Blake School) made save on the initial shot. But it was Claire Cater scored making it a three-goal lead for UW-La Crosse. Then in the 58
th minute the Eagles added to their total once again. Cater shot it towards the far post but Vavrichek punched it out. Then it was poked back in by Chelsea Gale for goal number four on the night. However, the UW-La Crosse offense wasn't done yet as a free kick was given outside the box. Initially, in the box it was knocked down but an unmarked Kaitlyn Kurtz scored making it a 5-0 for the final goal of the game in the 70th minute. Eagles take this one 5-0 as the Norse conclude their nonconference schedule.
TOP NORSE
- Senior Emma Lin (Des Moines, Iowa/Roosevelt) led the team with three shots and three shots on goal.
- Sophomore Ken Vavrichek (Bloomington, Minn./The Blake School) had five saves.
