The men's basketball team won its third game in a row defeating Loras College in Dubuque by a final of 78-74. The victory was also the first in the American Rivers Conference this season. Trailing by 11 (65-54) with 7:43 left in the game, the Norse outscored the Duhawks 24-9 to secure the come-from-behind victory. The win also snapped a 12-game losing streak to the Duhawks dating back to Feb. 11, 2015.
The Norse shot the ball well connecting on 54.7% that included a 9-for-18 performance from behind the three-point line. They also won the battle of the boards 31-27 and were 11-of-15 from the charity stripe.
Ben Gill and
Matthew Franzen led the Norse attack with 14 points each. Gill posted a double-double thanks to a game high 10 rebounds.
Aidan Bailey also tallied double digits with 11 thanks to a 3-for-4 performance from behind the three-point line.
The win gives Luther an A-R-C record of 1-4, 4-9 overall. The loss was the first home loss for the Duhawks this season who are now 2-2 in league play, 10-3 overall.
The men's next game was scheduled for this Saturday, Jan. 8 at home against Simpson College, but that game has been canceled due to COVID protocols.
