Luther scored twice in each half en route to a 4-2 home victory over Central College. This was the conference opener for both teams.
Three goals were scored in the first three minutes of the match. Central's Brant Mueller scored first at 2:29 unassisted. Hernan Manzanat drove in his first goal of the season at 2:53 assisted by
Steven Johnson.
Will Overberg scored the first of his two goals at 3:12 assisted by
Faydane Ouro-Akondo.
In the second half, Central tied the match in the 54th minute. Overberg answered with what proved to be the game winner at 57:43 unassisted, after he stole the ball from a Dutch defender and dribbled past the keeper to an empty net. The goal was Overberg's sixth of the year.
Marcos Vila completed the scoring on a corner kick at 78:17, his fourth of the year.
The loss snapped a three-match losing streak and gives the Norse an overall record of 5-3. Central fell to 2-5.
Luther will host St. Olaf College on Tuesday, Sept. 28 at 7:00 p.m.
