Regionally ranked No. 3 Luther and No. 5 St. Olaf faced each other for the 31st time dating back to Oct. 27, 1990. Unfortunately for Norse fans, the Oles posted a 3-2 double overtime victory.

The first half saw both teams score twice. Marcos Vila had two unassisted goals at 4:56 and 11:22. St. Olaf's Jordan Oberholtzer found the back of the Norse net at 5:48 and Hakeem Morgan tied the match at 39:09. Vila's goals were his fifth and sixth of the year.

For the next 60-plus minutes, the two teams battled back and forth and had excellent opportunities, but were turned away due to the defensive efforts by both squads. The Oles completed the game with 18 shots and Luther had 11. St. Olaf's goalkeeper Austin Williams, who was credited with five saves, made the save of the game midway through the second half, stopping a point-blank shot by Vila in the box. Vila ended the evening with six shots and five on goal.

Twenty one seconds into the second overtime, Morgan, who had his back to the goal, wheeled to his right just outside the box on the left side of the field facing the Norse net, kicked a curving ball over the top of the Norse defenders, that found the upper right hand corner of the goal for the game winner.

The loss drops Luther's overall record to 5-4, while St. Olaf improved to 7-1-1.

Luther returns to action this Saturday, Oct. 2 when it travels to Buena Vista University for a match that will begin at 3:30 p.m.
