The University of Dubuque and Loras College traveled to Luther this afternoon for the first conference matches of the season for all three teams. Luther split its team and played the Spartans and Duhawks simultaneously.
The Norse improved to 2-0 in league play following a 9-0 victory over the Duhawks. The Norse dropped just three games in doubles and 12 in singles en route to the victory.
In doubles, all three matches were won by finals of (8-1).
Shelby Cook and
Sofia Sackett won at No. 1 over Isabel Schwabe and Lauren Diiulio;
Lexi Hastings and
Natalia Smith defeated Sara Backus and Clair Moore at No. 2; and
Emily Rubbelke and
Ana Olimpio won at No. 3 over Alexandra Oestrich and Dorothy Deans.
All six singles matches were won in straight sets. Cook defeated Diiulio at No. 1 (6-2, 6-0); Smith defeated Schwabe at No. 2 (6-3, 6-2); Sackett defeated Moore at No. 3 (6-1, 6-0); Olimpio defeated Deans at No. 4 (6-0, 6-1);
Montserrat Ramirez-Mainou defeated Backus at No. 5 (6-1, 6-1); and
Renata Martinez defeated Oestrich at No. 6 (6-1, 6-0).
