A little over two hours into the fourth and final game of this four-game series, the teams were asked to leave the field due to lightning in the Decorah area. Coe had just finished batting in the top of the seventh and led 5-3. After a half hour delay, the game was called after six innings that resulted in a 4-3 victory for the Kohawks.
Coe held a 1-0 lead entering the top of the sixth and added three more runs. Luther answered with its only three runs in the bottom of the frame.
Cullen Stamp and
Luke Plunkett led-off the inning with back-to-back singles and advanced to second and third an a passed ball.
Kelby Johnson drove in the first run with a sacrifice fly to left. Three batters later
Joe McKibben drove in two runs with a single.
The loss ends Luther's regular season league schedule with a record of 23-9. Coe, the regular season champions finished with a mark of 28-4.
Next week, Luther will be the No. 2 seed for Pod 2 of the A-R-C Tournament. The tournament will take place May 20-22. Pod two will be held at Wartburg College and Pod 1 will be played at Mount Mercy University. Luther will begin play in this double elimination tournament on Thusday, May 20 against the No. 7 seed at 2:00 p.m.
