Luther College meet St. Norbert College at the Rochester Regional Dome for a non-conference double header. This was the first games for the Green Knights in 665 days, after their entire 2020 season was wiped out to the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic last March. St. Norbert's last game prior to today was played on May 4, 2019 when it faced Lake Forest College in the championship game of the Midwest Conference Tournament.
The two teams split the twin bill with Luther winning game one 5-0 and St. Norbert winning game two 3-2.
In game one,
Kendra Cooper went the distance in the circle and struck out 10, walked two and spread six hits. The Norse scored at least one run in all but two innings.
Katie Brennan, Cooper and
Abby Spore had multiple hits. Brennan was 3-for-4 with three RBI batting in the ninth slot. Spore was 2-for-3 with an RBI and Cooper was 2-for-4.
Box Score Game One
In game two, the Green Knights scored twice in the third and produced the game winner in the top of the fourth. Luther's two runs came in the bottom of the fourth.
Abbey Gapinski was credited with the loss. She pitched four innings, allowed three runs on four hits, struck out three and walked two.
Sam Thompson took over in the fifth frame and allowed one hit and struck out three.
Morgan Hoganson,
Elsa Skeie and
Belle Berg all went 2-for-4 at the plate.
The split give Luther an overall record of 3-1.
The Norse will return to the Rochester Dome tomorrow and will face College of St. Scholastica. First pitch is slated for 4:00 p.m.
