Luther College Director of Athletics
Renae Hartl has announced that Hollie Gray III '15 has accepted the position as head coach of women's soccer.
Â
Gray, a 2015 graduate of Luther College, takes over the Norse program after serving three years as an assistant soccer coach for the Boys U19 soccer team at Shattuck-St. Mary's School in Faribault, Minnesota, where he played his high school career from 2008-11.
Â
While at Luther, he made 56 appearances that included 53 starts as a defender and was named all-conference and third team All-North Region. He helped lead the Norse to a three year record of 41-15-4, a conference championship in 2013 and a NCAA III National Tournament appearance that same year.
Â
Following his playing days at Luther, Gray was an assistant coach for the men's soccer team for three years before accepting the assistant coach position at Shattuck-St. Mary's.
Â
"I am immensely proud to be returning to Luther College as the next women's soccer head coach," said Gray. "It truly is an honor to follow in the footsteps of coach Russell Schouweiler who has led the team the past 10 years. I will strive to add to the immense history of this program. I cannot wait to start working with the team and compete in one of the most exciting conferences in the nation. I believe this program has everything it needs to take the next step, that is what makes coming back so exciting. I'd be remiss if I didn't also take a moment to thank my mentor Coach Sean Bushey for the guidance and wisdom he has provided at my time at Shattuck-St. Mary's. Also, I want to thank President Ward,
Renae Hartl,
Chris Garcia-Prats and the search committee for believing in me to be the next leader of the women's soccer program at Luther College."
Â
With his appointment, Gray becomes the fifth women's soccer coach in school history since 1989. During its 31-year history as a varsity sport, the Norse have posted an overall record of 343-210-4.
Â
"We could not be more excited to bring back coach Hollie Gray as our head women's soccer coach," commented Hartl. "His positive personality is going to resonate with our student-athletes, recruits, families, friends and fans of women's soccer and Luther College."
Â
Gray will begin his duties on March 8 and will coach alongside top assistant
Josh Galvin, who has led team practices since December. Â
