The 2026 Hall of Fame class includes all-conference defensive back John Den Hartog '91, all-American women's tennis player Brooke Hagen '01, two-time all-conference receiver Thane Holland '01, all-American javelin thrower Lauren Boleen '11, all-American softball pitcher Lexy Determan '11, national champion and all-American cross country and track and field runner Tricia Serres '16, two-time national champion in women's swimming and diving Clare Slagel '16, national champion wrestler Drew Van Anrooy '16, and former men's and women's tennis head coach Brian Huinker.
These individuals will be inducted during a ceremony which will be held on Friday, Oct. 2 at 7:30 p.m. in the Center for Faith and Life followed by a reception. Then on Saturday, Oct. 3 inductees will be recognized at halftime of the 1 p.m. football game vs Illinois College.
All honorees are selected by the Hall of Fame committee, which is composed of current and former coaches and staff members in the Norse Athletic Department.

John Den Hartog – Football and Baseball – 1991
Den Hartog was a two-sport athlete for the Norse playing on the football and baseball teams. The defensive back was an Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (IIAC) all-conference honoree in 1990. He finished his career with 210 tackles which ranked first at graduation and he still ranks fourth all-time in interceptions with 16. On the baseball field, in 295 at-bats he recorded 88 hits, 64 runs batted in (rbi), 45 runs and 167 putouts.
Brooke Hagen – Women's Tennis – 2001
Hagen earned all-American honors in doubles with partner Elsa Schmitt after they finished third at the NCAA Division III National Championship. She posted career records of 71-44 in singles and 100-26 in doubles. She was a member of four Iowa Conference championship teams. Hagen was also a three-time IIAC conference singles champion (1997, 1998, 1999) and four-time doubles champion (1997, 1998, 1999, 2000). Academically, she was an Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) scholar athlete.
Thane Holland – Football and Track and Field – 2001
Holland was a two-time IIAC all-conference performer at wide receiver for the Norse. His career numbers still rank in the top-10 all-time for career receptions (175), career reception yards (2621), single season receptions (60), single season reception yards (858), and touchdown receptions (21). Holland also competed on the track and field team earning all-conference honors twice in for the outdoor pole vault (1998, 1999). His outdoor height of 14-3 currently ranks tied for ninth all-time and his indoor height of 14-6 is tied for fourth.
Lauren Boleen – Track and Field/Volleyball – 2011
Boleen was an all-American in the javelin finishing fifth in 2011 with a mark of 139-2. In her time at Luther, she was a three-time NCAA Division III National Championship qualifier (2009, 2010, 2011), three-time IIAC all-conference and two-time IIAC conference champion. Boleen still holds the school record with a mark of 146-10. She also played on the volleyball team recording 287 kills, 225 digs and 92 blocks.
Lexy Determan – Softball – 2011
Determan was a pitcher for the Norse who earned National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) second team all-American honors in 2011. She was also a two-time NFCA all-region honoree (2010, 2011) and an IIAC all-conference first-team selection (2011). In two years, she appeared in 62 games recording a record of 45-6 in the circle. Determan pitched 341.1 innings tallying 420 strikeouts. She also finished her career with 18 shutouts and a career ERA of 1.11. Determan ranks fifth all-time in ERA, shutouts, and strikeouts. She also ranks sixth in career wins and tenth all-time in innings pitched. Determan was a member of national tournament teams that finished fifth in 2010 and seventh in 2011.
Tricia Serres – Cross Country and Track and Field – 2016
Serres is a ten-time all-American in cross country and track and field which included being a national champion in the outdoor 1500-meter run. In cross country, she earned all-American honors in 2012 (14
th) and 2013 (27
th) along with being a three-time national meet qualifier, four-time all-region and four-time all-conference performer. She was a member of three conference championship teams.
Serres was also a three-time all-American in the indoor mile along with all-American honors in the 3000-meter run. She is also a nine-time all-conference performer including being a three-time champion in the mile, conference champion in the 3000 and in the distance medley relay. And in outdoor track and field she earned three all-American honors in the 1500 along with being the national champion in 2015. That same year she also finished runner-up in the 5000. Serres was a four-time conference champion in the 1500 and twice in the 5000 and once with the 4x800 relay. She still holds school records in the 800, 1500, 5000, 4x800 relay and the distance medley relay.
Along with her athletic accolades she was an NCAA Postgraduate Scholar and College Sports Communicators (formerly CoSIDA) first-team academic all-American.
Clare Slagel – Swimming and Diving – 2016
Slagel is the only two-time national champion in swimming and diving program history in two events, the 100 backstroke (2015) and 200 backstroke (2014). She is also nine-time all-American including four-times in the 100 backstroke, three-times in the 200 backstroke, one-time in the 200-medley relay and an honorable mention honor in the 400-medley relay. Slagel put on a performance at the Liberal Arts Championship earning most valuable performer honors four-times and was a 26-time Liberal Arts Champion. She also was a 26-time Iowa Conference Champion. Slagel still holds the school records in the 500 freestyle, 1000 freestyle, 50 backstroke, 1000 backstroke, 200 backstroke, 200 medley relay and 400 medley relay.
Drew Van Anrooy – Men's Wrestling – 2016
Van Anrooy is a two-time all-American which included a title of national champion at 141 pounds in wrestling in 2016. He also was a two-time IIAC champion (2015, 2016), the conference most outstanding wrestler (2016), and two-time National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) scholar all-American (2015, 2016). Van Anrooy posted a career record of 50-3. In 2016, Luther finished third at the national championship.
Brian Huinker – Coach – Men's and Women's Tennis
Huinker coached the men's tennis team from 2002-11 where his teams recorded a record of 252-91 including five IIAC conference championships and five NCAA Division III national tournament teams (2007-11). He coached ITA all-Americans Scott Sundstrom and Ustab Rijal, five conference most valuable players, 31 all-conference player honors in singles and 27 earned all-conference honors in doubles. He was also named the conference coach of the year six times.
He also coached the women's tennis team from 2007-11 who posted a record of 123-49. Three-times his team won the IIAC championship (2006, 2009-10). The women's tennis team made three trips to the national tournament (2009-11). Huinker coached one conference most valuable player and 11 went on to earn all-conference honors in singles and 12 earned all-conference honors in doubles.

In order to be eligible for the Luther Athletics Hall of Fame, individuals must be a graduate of the college and must have graduated 10 years prior to their induction. Inductees must have been an outstanding athlete or coach at Luther and have contributed to community life after graduation. All honorees are selected by the Hall of Fame committee, which is composed of current and former coaches and staff members in the Luther Athletic Department.
