A young Luther College men's basketball team, only one senior, traveled to Macalester College located in St. Paul, Minn., for the season opener for both teams. This was the fourth game in a series that started with games in 1955 and 1956 and resumed in 2019. The Scots evened the series 2-2 after defeating the Norse 80-59.
Shooting and points in the paint proved to be the difference in this game. The Scots blistered the nets shooting 58.9% and outscored the Norse 44-28 in the paint. The Norse shot 38.6% with 28 of their 59 coming off the bench.
Ben Gill led the Norse attack with 17.
Eros Carpio and
Aidan Bailey, who both came in off the bench, were credited with 11 and nine points respectively.
Macalester was led by the trio of Caleb Williams (20), Cody Gold (18) and Shane Anderson (14).
Luther travels to Ripon College on Wednesday, Nov. 10. Start time is slated for 7:00 p.m.
