A Luther second half run came up a bit short as Milwaukee School of Engineering held on to post a 68-64 victory tonight in the Regents Center Gym.
Luther led the majority of the first half including an 11-point spread with just over nine minutes remaining. A three-point bucket by the Raiders Jess Hartman with 1:43 left in the half, capped off a 16-4 run by the Raiders that gave them a one-point lead en route to a 37-33 halftime advantage.
The Norse trailed the Raiders 47-35 six minutes into the second frame and put together a 25-16 run and pulled to within three twice in the final five minutes.
Daniel Webster scored 15 of his game high 27 points during this stretch. Webster was 10-of-17 from the field that included a 7-11 performance from behind the three-point line. His seven treys tied a single game record that is now held by six different players. That list includes Ken Heinecke (1987), Jared Bly (2001), Jake Waddle (2009), Tim Merritt (2011) and
Rahul Bagga (2017).
Eros Carpio was one point shy of double digits with nine, while
Mat Rohden and
Evan Turner both chipped in seven.
Ben Gill led all rebounders with eight, three on the offensive glass and five on the defensive end.
MSOE was led by Michael Pitrof who tallied 22 points. Pitrof scored the first 10 points of the game for the Raiders and finished the night 6-of-13 from the field and 8-of-9 from the charity stripe. Steve Dillard also reached double digits with 12.
The loss gives Luther an overall record of 1-3. MSOE improved to 3-1.
Luther will begin American Rivers Conference play on Tuesday, Nov. 23. The Norse will host the Kohawks of Coe College with a start time slated for 7:30 p.m.
