The Luther College wrestling team had three individuals place in the Elite Division and five place in the Silver Division at the Luther Open today. The competition took place on six mats in the Sports and Recreation Center and four mats in the Regents Center Gym. No team scores were kept.
Placing in the Elite Division was senior
Logan Kennedy (285) who was 2-1 after receiving a first round bye and placed second. Junior
Jesse Martinez (133) posted a record of 4-2 and placed fourth. Junior
Donovan Corn, a National Wrestling Coaches Association All-American last year, placed fifth at 197 thanks to a record of 3-2. He won his fifth place match with a fall (1:35) over Max Schmitz of UW-Platteville.
Sophomores
Cullen Quick and
Walter West faced each other in the championship match at 285 in the Silver Division. West won by tie breaker (TB-1, 2-1) to claim the title. Sophomore
Luis Cruces placed fifth at 174. Sophomore
Ryan Cripe (141) and Freshman
Braeden Hendel (157) both placed fifth. Cripe wrestled the most matches today for the Norse, posting a record of 4-2 that included a fall and major decision.
Luther will return to action one week from today when it will travel to Minneapolis, Minn. for the Augsburg College Open. Action will begin at 9:00 a.m.
