American Rivers Conference leader and nationally ranked No. 10 Central College defeated Luther this afternoon 76-13. The Dutch entered the game leading the nation in total offense per game and racked up 646 yards while holding the Norse to 189.
Defensive lineman
Sam Feine put the first six points on the scoreboard for the Norse late in the first quarter. Feine picked off a pass from Central Quarterback Blaine Hawkins and returned it 47-yards for a touchdown. It was the first interception of the year for Hawkins, who finished the game with 274 yards and six touchdowns.
Late in the fourth frame,
Alex Griffeth connected with
Andre Atkins for a five-yard strike. Atkins made a one-hand grab in the back of the end zone with two defenders covering him. The touchdown capped of a 10-play, 75-yard drive for the Norse.
Mentor Cooper led the Norse rushing attack with 76 yards on nine carries.
Defensively,
Dakota Wright led the team with nine tackles. Dexter Wright and
Zach Olson were next with seven, while
Jeremy Whalen and
Sam Bundy were credited with six.
Luther has one more game remaining on its schedule. Next week, the Norse will travel to Dubuque to face the Duhawks of Loras College. Kick-off will take place at 1:00 p.m.
