The Luther College men's soccer team and Simpson College played to a 1-1 double overtime tie this afternoon in Indianola.
The Storm's Jordy Triana-Vasquez scored the first goal of the match at 36:05, his eighth of the year.
Marcos Vila tied the match at 53:32, his 12th goal of the year.
Simpson tallied 15 shots in 110 minutes placing seven on goal, while Luther was credited with 10 placing four inside the frame.
The tie gives Luther an American Rivers Conference record of 4-0-2. The Norse are alone in second place in the
league standings trailing the University of Dubuque who is undefeated with a mark of 6-0. These two teams will face each other in Dubuque on Wednesday, Oct. 20 with a start time slated for 5:00 p.m.
This is a critical match for the Norse not only in regards to keeping an opportunity open to capture the regular season league title, but to also secure a top seed for the six-team conference tournament that will begin Saturday, Oct. 30. The top-two seeds earn a first round bye and will host home matches for the semifinal round. Seeds three and four will host a first round match at home. The winner of the tournament earns the league's automatic bid to the NCAA III National Tournament.
