Luther put the finishing touches on a perfect American Rivers Conference schedule posting an 8-1 victory over Wartburg College this afternoon in Waverly, Iowa. The victory gave the Norse a league record of 8-0. Luther has now increased its string of consecutive victories over A-R-C opponents to 30, dating back to Oct. 7, 2018.
Luther entered the match already knowing it had captured its 30th conference title, but was looking to post its third consecutive perfect league schedule.
The Norse jumped out to a 3-0 lead sweeping doubles.
Ana Olimpio and
Sofia Sackett put the first point on the scoreboard defeating Georgia Nissen and Chihiro Ono (8-1) at No. 2.
Shelby Cook and Natalie Smith defeated Meadow LaDuke and Natalie Kaiser at No. 1 (8-2).
Lexi Hastings and
Renata Martinez posted an (8-2) win over Carolin Hutchinson and Bailey Sinnwell at No. 3.
The Norse won five of six singles matches. Martinez started thins off with a (6-2, 6-0) win over Gabby Flynn at No. 5. She was followed by Olimpio who secured the team victory defeating Nissen (6-2, 6-2) at No. 4. Sackett won (6-0, 6-0) at No. 3 over Hutchinson. Smith won a three-set tie breaker over Kaiser (6-3, 2-6, 10-8) at No. 2.
Bruna Costa defeated Ono at No. 6 (6-3, 7-6(7-1)) at No. 6. Cook was defeated by LaDuke (6-4, 7-6(7-2)) at No. 1.
This weekend the Norse will wrap up the fall schedule at the A-R-C Individual Tournament that will be held in Sioux City, Iowa. Draws and other logistics info for the women's tournament will be released Thursday, October 14.
