Luther and Loras battled for 110 minutes tonight and finished in a 1-1 tie. As expected, the match was physical and fans saw some outstanding plays by both teams. Carson Davenport faced three shots on goal and turned away and early shot from inside the box that could have given the Duhawks a 2-0 advantage at halftime.
Loras led 1-0 at intermission thanks to an unassisted goal by Juan Jose Arias, his seventh of the year. Arias flipped a ball over the Norse defenders into the right hand corner of the net, off a throw in at 14:47.
Jose Gimenez scored the equalizer on a header into the right corner of the net, off a corner kick by
Javier Pastor Valls at 87:21. It was his first goal of the year.
The tie dropped Luther (4-0-1) into second place in the league standings with 13 points. The Norse trail the University of Dubuque (5-0) that defeated Simpson tonight (2-0), and sits atop the leaderboard with 15 points. The league gives three points for a win and 1 point for a tie to determine the regular season champion.Â
Luther's next opponent is Simpson College (2-2) on Saturday, Oct. 16. This match will begin in Indianola, Iowa at 3:30 p.m.
