The 2025-26 season will be Dave Mitchell's 30th year as head coach and 31st year coaching at Luther. He is also an Assistant Professor of Mathematics.
He is Luther's all-time leader for career coaching wins posting a dual-meet record of 340-178-6. Five times Dave has been named Conference Coach of the Year (1999, 2002, 2004, 2008, 2016). He was inducted into the Division III National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) Hall of Fame (2010). He was named NCAA Division III National Coach of the Year (2004).
Luther has placed in the top five in the country seven times — finishing 3rd (2016, 2005, 2004); 5th (2003); 4th (2001, 2007). He has coached 64 All-Americans, 9 national champions, 6 national runner-ups, 74 Scholar All-Americans, 3 NCAA Postgraduate Scholars, 5 CoSIDA Scholar All-Americans and 2 Iowa Conference Male Scholar Athletes of the Year.
Dave was an All-American, league MVP, and two-time NCAA Division III Academic All-American wrestler for UW–La Crosse. He is from Riceville, Iowa.
